Unlike most books with multiple authors, this volume is consistently excellent from chapter to chapter. The various authors represent a "Who's Who" of respiratory function and disease on an international scale. The editor has structured the chapters according to the typical British tutorial system. Each chapter covers its subject in depth and accomplishes the goal outlined in the preface "to attempt the synthesis between the laboratory and clinical approaches to chest disease."
The three major sections are "Fundamentals," "Common Clinical Syndromes," and "Selected Topics." Among the outstanding chapters in these various sections are: "Dyspnea," "Pulmonary Function Testing in Clinical Practice
