An ideal book on clinical nutrition should integrate the principles of the basic nutritional sciences and be a primer on the application of the broad spectrum of nutritional therapeutic tools available for use in daily practice. This book is a significant move toward the development of a proper treatise on clinical nutrition and belongs on the bookshelf of every physician. The editors in their charge to the 45 contributors espoused admirably the need for a bridge between the sciences, but alas the abutments are stronger than the span in some instances.
