Dr. Schoenfield has put together a remarkably readable, yet thorough consideration of the problems of the gallbladder and biliary system. Beginning with embryology and anatomy, including congenital defects, the author then considers the physiology of the biliary system, covering with remarkable clarity the normal physiology of bile formation and excretion, and the operation of the ductal system and the gallbladder, all of which serves as an excellent backdrop for discussion of the pathogenesis of gallstone formation.
