Despite the current prolification of textbooks in nephrology, there have been few dealing with management of patients undergoing artificial kidney treatment and none, except for the present book, that consider all aspects of end-stage renal failure. This is therefore a needed reference. The 26 chapters include such diverse but pertinent topics as "The Conservative Management of Uremia in Childhood," "Psychosocial Aspects of Hemodialysis," "Benefits and Tribulations of a Renal Failure Program at a Teaching Hospital," and "Future Treatment of Renal Failure." Many of the chapters, including those by Dr. Friedman, were written with the personal perspective of a distinguished clinician
