The knowledge explosion in the area of hypertension, the emphasis on detection and effective treatment, and the many new antihypertensive agents make this book timely and useful. The initial chapter is a synopsis or overview of current knowledge and controversies in hypertension. Unfortunately, this chapter is too brief and does not provide sufficient guidelines of the "how to" nature to help the busy physician. The section on therapeutic principles is a good one.
The remainder of the book is organized by specific drugs with a brief final chapter on drugs currently in the experimental phase. Each chapter is organized into:
