The familial nature of cardiovascular diseases and the interrelations of genetic and environmental factors in their occurrence are discussed in 10 chapters. Subjects include chromosomal anomalies and single-gene disorders, syndromes and disorders of unknown cause, multifactorial causes of congenital heart disease, atherosclerosis and vascular disease, essential hypertension, and rheumatic fever.
