This concise, but detailed, well-illustrated monograph is a useful compromise between the very short disease descriptions found in standard textbooks of medicine and those in long and very costly textbooks of rheumatic diseases. Coverage extends beyond the most frequent disorders to those that are relatively rare, such as Wegener's granulomatosis, Takayasu's arteritis, and giant-cell arteritis. One chapter is given to discussion of immune-complex disease and the complement system. An appendix discusses principles and applications of immunologic tests in the diseases covered.
