Proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Mass Spectrometry in Biochemistry and Medicine held at Riva del Garda, Italy, in June 1977. Researchers in chemistry, pharmacology, medicine, and biology considered topics ranging from instrumentation to identification of drugs and their metabolites, quantitation, mechanisms of biotransformations, and drugs of abuse. Several chapters concern environmental pollution: identification of 2, 3, 7, 8-tetrachlorodibenzo-para-dioxin in animals from a contaminated area: structure elucidation on metabolites of polychlorinated aromatic compounds; and detection of polychlorodibenzodioxins in fly ash and flue gas of municipal incinerators. Subjects of other chapters include a peripherally inserted flow-directed catheter for the continuous
