A short monograph that analyzes the anatomic, acoustic, and pathologic basis for the characteristics of sounds generated during breathing and speaking. Sounds produced by percussion discussed only briefly. No discussion of diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of lung sounds compared to roentgenographic examination. A useful supplement to those textbooks of physical diagnosis that do not rationalize physical findings in examination of the lung.
