To the editor: Despite — perhaps because of— Dr. Barondess' eminent position in the American College of Physicians, his paper in the March issue (1) should not stand without comment. The summary suggests opposition to providing training time in office gynecology, orthopedics, and other fields above what is currently part of training programs. Yet, on p. 414, he indicates that such training must be included in the residency training of the internist. I am not sure everyone would agree that the diagnosis of vaginitis, and its treatment, is any simpler than that of pneumonia or other uncomplicated infections treated on
