The objective of this book, as stated in the foreward, is "to elucidate the occurrence, the course of events, and the therapeutic responses of these tumors." The author analyzes 172 patients of carcinoid tumors seen at the Charity Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in New Orleans and supplements this with references from the world literature. The book is organized into chapters on the history and physiology and pathology of carcinoids, followed by an analysis of carcinoids by region, a chapter on the carcinoid syndrome, treatment, a final summary, and appendix.
