Patients with liver disease constitute a very significant proportion of the gastrointestinal illness seen by primary physicians, internists, and gastroenterologists. In the United States cirrhosis represents the third leading cause of death for men between 35 to 55 years of age. Dr. Galambos has attempted to provide a broad and complete coverage of the many aspects of cirrhosis, with emphasis primarily on understanding and management of the cirrhotic patient.
The first eight chapters deal with the etiology, pathogenesis, epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical features of cirrhosis. The last part of the monograph, and probably the best, deals with the evaluation and
