To the editor: In a recent editorial note, Hudson (1), reviewing J. J. R. Macleod's "History of the Researches Leading to the Discovery of Insulin" from the 1978 Bulletin of the History of Medicine, argues that this paper presents a "more favorable picture of Macleod and his contribution than has been drawn before." This is not surprising, since the treatise was written by Macleod. On several points, however, Macleod's version does not square with the evidence.
