The editors' stated objective is the practical application of basic principles in the diagnosis and management of allergic disorders. Fourteen contributors present 19 sections in a "rapid manuscript reproduction" format. All but two of the contributors are members of the editors' medical school faculty. In this regard, the quality and relevance of the various chapters towards the stated objective of the book is somewhat uneven. Some chapters, notably those on mediators of the allergic inflammatory response, use of antiallergic drugs, non IgE-mediated hypersensitivity lung disease, and acute and chronic urticaria are brief, concise, and informative presentations.
