To the editor: The paper by Favero and associates (1) outlining guidelines for hospital care of patients with viral hepatitis is a thorough review of the risks of nosocomial transmission of hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and non-A, non-B hepatitis. For these risks the authors recommend discontinuing the use of enteric precautions and using ". . . the same precautions for handling feces from all other hospitalized patients, which should include wearing gloves when handling bedpans or fecal material."
The above recommendation is a logical extension of our understanding of the modes of transmission of hepatitis and the standard of good
