Interest in adolescent patients and their medical, behavioral, and social problems has increased during the past decade. Many health professionals do not feel they can adequately cope with teenagers. This text purports to assist the primary care physician in developing an appropriate knowledge base and a practical approach to managing the teenage patient. There are over 60 contributors, many of whom are well known in adolescent medicine. However, the quality of the contributions varies. The introductory chapter covering normal growth and development is incomplete and could have been improved by the use of less familiar illustrations.
