A massive and comprehensive treatise on surgery for diseases of the abdominal viscera and vessels. The emphasis is on surgical procedures and technique. Although the text covers topics of medical pertinence such as diagnostic methods and criteria, the main value of this work for physicians is likely to be the reviews of physiologic and biochemical rationales for various alternative procedures and the summaries of early and late postoperative complications. The numerous historical notes include references to classic papers. Each volume includes the subject index, with references to both volumes.
