Professor Jidejian's book is both timely and welcome. Despite the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges posed by this disease, his monograph is the first comprehensive review of echinococciasis to appear in over 30 years and the first to be published in the English language since 1928.
The author begins with a discussion of the history, morphology, and life cycle of the parasite. Next are individual chapters on Echinococcus granulosus disease of the liver, lung, peritoneal cavity, heart, brain, bone, kidney, spleen, muscle, and other less commonly involved sites.
