Although this second edition is extensively updated and expanded over the first, it still is not designed as an all-inclusive textbook of clinical nephrology but as a concise, comprehensive discussion of fluid, electrolyte, acid-base, and renal pathophysiology. This is what makes this such an ideal introductory text for the medical student, resident, or physician receiving his or her first intensive exposure to nephrology.
The emphasis on mechanisms, rather than on systematic description of each disorder, followed by discussions of causes, manifestations or consequences, and treatment makes it easier to appreciate the teleology and logic of each deviation from normal. This
