The state-of-the-science papers in these two rapidly published volumes constitute the proceedings of the International Symposium on Cancer held in New York in mid-September 1980. They provide a broad, if not always detailed, view of current basic and clinical oncology: epidemiology, viruses in oncogeny, radiation hazards, industrial and "lifestyle" carcinogens, host defenses, genetics, oncologic cytology, diagnostic advances, development of therapies, pharmacology and chemotherapy, pediatric tumors, leukemias, lymphomas, solid tumors, bone marrow transplantation, supportive therapy, and prospects for future developments.
