To the editor: The review of epithelial carcinoma of the ovary (1) did not discuss three methods of analysis that repeatedly show that combination chemotherapy already offers two to four times the potential for substantially longer survival compared with standard treatment for as many as 50% of all affected patients. The conclusion that combination chemotherapy has not yet been proved to be better than single-agent therapy may be too conservative and due to incomplete analysis emphasizing outmoded criteria. It is no longer appropriate to generalize and ignore major prognostic factors. In this article there is also insufficient emphasis on showing
