With the discovery of Epstein-Barr virus and its subsequent association with infectious mononucleosis, there has been an explosion of knowledge about both subjects. However, there have been few integrated attempts to explain the clinical manifestations based upon the basic virology of Epstein-Barr virus and stated in modern pathogenetic terms. This concise book sets out to do just that, to "explain why [infectious mononucleosis] is what it is." The contents of the book describe the virus, the disease, and how new knowledge of each can lead to insights into both.
The book succeeds in its purpose and is both clearly written
