To the editor: Streptozocin has known nephrotoxicity. Reported cases have documented development of hypophosphatemia as the earliest finding followed by glycosuria, proteinuria, and finally by increases in serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (1, 2). Proteinuria is the commonest finding, occurring in up to 73% of cases (3). Generally, if the early signs of nephrotoxicity are recognized, discontinuing streptozocin prevents severe renal failure.
We report a patient treated for Hodgkin's disease with a combination regimen including streptozocin. He developed only mild signs of renal toxicity during and immediately after the streptozocin treatment but later developed chronic renal failure.
