The authors of this short monograph rescue recurrent polyserositis, or familial Mediterranean fever, from the morass of periodic diseases into which it had fallen. In writing this monograph, the authors have 35 years of patient examinations, data collection, and treatment programs to use as material; they seem to have spent that entire time thinking about the disease and its meaning. They have supplied 429 references, most dealing primarily with the disorder. The result is a monograph containing virtually all that is known about a condition that excites more interest than the number of its victims would suggest.
