Judging by Boston bookstores, Primary Care Medicine is a runaway bestseller, in its seventh printing and out of stock. The text will be especially useful for medical students, general and family practitioners, and, paradoxically, for specialists who seek a concise review of contemporary medical management or a "memory jog" when evaluating a new symptom. There are excellent discussions on the techniques to stop smoking and the management of osteoporosis, among others. In addition, each chapter identifies triage points in patient care that require hospitalization or referral. The sections on patient education in each chapter are outstanding.
