During the 1970s, running was studied intensely with regard to its effect on the cardiovascular, respiratory, and associated internal medical systems. In the last few years we have begun to see the emergence of intensive studies relating to the effects of running on the mind. This book presents the most comprehensive collection to date of articles on various aspects of the psychologic effects caused by this type of endurance exercise. The book also delves into possible therapeutic uses of running. The collection is an outgrowth of annual seminars on the psychology of running held from 1978 to 1980 at the
