Dworken has provided a complete, up-to-date, and compact textbook of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. Although considerably smaller than the popular Sleisenger-Fordtran or Spiro texts, the information on common diseases such as viral hepatitis B and the uncommon diseases such as alpha1 antitrypsin deficiency, is remarkably detailed. Basic physiologic and physicochemical concepts of esophageal function and bile salt metabolism are presented clearly in sufficient depth.
