There is little doubt that colonoscopy is an important diagnostic tool for colonic diseases. As the author admits, for those wishing to learn colonoscopy, experience is the best teacher. Shinya relates lessons he has learned from 45 000 colonoscopies so that others may avoid the same pitfalls and frustrations while learning colonoscopy. The text covers the technique thoroughly, clearly stating Shinya's preferences and views.
The book begins with a short history of the technique and continues with a description of the colonoscopes available and their construction; this section is perhaps too long. Some useful hints are given on setting up
