To the editor: I believe I have found an error in one of the calculations reported in The National Cooperative Gallstone Study (1). The probability for a white woman, of ideal body weight, with a high serum cholesterol and several small countable stones, of achieving partial or total dissolution of her radiolucent gallstones is 0.94, not 0.78 as stated on page 272. However,a nonwhite woman with these characteristics would have a 0.78 probability of partial or complete dissolution.
