Owing to the rapid expansion of factual information and proliferation of specialties and subspecialties over the past few decades, formal undergraduate medical education now emphasizes a core curriculum in each course. The term core curriculum represents the faculty's perception of the essentials every student must master before graduation. This textbook, with its 37 chapters, each written by a different author, is more than a core curriculum. It is a comprehensive text on pulmonary medicine organized conventionally and encompassing functional anatomy, physiology, diagnostic methods, and individual diseases.
