The editor of this new textbook states his intention to provide balanced and complete coverage of medical microbiology with an emphasis on general principles. Each of the chapters was written by different authors and designed to be concise units. The book appears to have been written for students with little previous knowledge of microbiology.
The coverage is broad. In addition to sections on bacteriology, mycology, and the microbiology of organ systems, there are sections that deal systematically with virology and parasitology, and a section that attempts to review the major aspects of immunology.
