The first edition of this book was welcomed as a needed addition to the literature on viral diseases, providing an extensive discussion of the epidemiology of these infections and approaches to control. The second edition, 6 years later, brings each section up-to-date and has new chapters on viral gastroenteritis due to the Norwalk group of viruses and rotaviruses, and the African hemorrhagic fevers due to Marburg and Ebola viruses. With these additions, the book includes most of the major viral diseases in humans.
One of the strengths of this book is the use of the same highly structured section headings
