To the editor: In response to our comment (1) that data presented in their paper did not justify their implication that non-smoker retired cotton workers have progressive deterioration in pulmonary function, Beck and associates (2) stated, "The tabulation desired . . . has been given (3) and is consistent with previous results and conclusions." The data, given in their tables 6.10 to 6.13 compare "controls" with the retired cotton workers, both separated into smokers, nonsmokers and exsmokers.
