The modern history of cholera has revolved around the challenge of elucidating the specific cause for the massive watery diarrhea that is the hallmark of the disease, and developing effective treatment. Both goals have now been met, and this book chronicles the steps in the process. The authors were participants in some of the events described, and because of their knowledge and access to various unpublished materials and the personal reminiscences of many of the principal characters, this book is unique.
