To the editor: Gottlieb and associates (1), citing data from the Centers for Disease Control, listed 5% of patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome as Haitians and 5% as "others. " We believe this classification is misleading because it lends itself to far more interpretations or conclusions than there are data to support them. For example, it's commonly believed that this syndrome is a Haitian disease or that it originated in Haiti.
