Dr. Jeejeebhoy has contributed to the development of parenteral nutrition with meticulous clinical investigation and his clear exposition of nutritional therapeutic strategies. He champions the use of lipid and glucose as the optimal mixed-fuel source for nonprotein calories in total parenteral nutrition. In his brief introductory chapters on the physiologic basis of nutritional therapy, he reaffirms this position with a few figures and a long reading list. Reviewing the thorny problem of nutritional assessment, he remains skeptical about the value of anthropometric measurements, skin testing, and laboratory data as methods to evaluate malnutrition.
