A recent controlled study on the impact of a course in bioethics in a medical school found that there was no significant difference in the response to an ethical dilemma by students who had taken the course and the control group of students. Students decided according to their own emotions. The instructors believed that the students had little or no background in moral philosophy and therefore the base on which to build an ethical analysis of the problems in biomedicine was insecure.
