The efficient, cost-effective delivery of high-quality health care is a major problem for the health industry and the public. This book proposes to inspire the patient to assume more responsibility through sharing in his own problem-oriented record. In addition, the health care industry is challenged to develop new tools to keep costs reasonable while improving productivity. The use of computers is proposed to improve the coordination among health care providers, lessen the excessive reliance on memory for facts and patient data, better record the logic of actions, and provide efficient feedback loops.
