Many articles, monographs, and textbooks have been published recently on the subject of laboratory-based diagnoses, usually with the goal of achieving more rational and cost-effective use of the clinical laboratory. For this book, Lundberg has edited a series of 35 articles by 61 authors that originally appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association from 1975 to 1982 in the section titled "Toward Optimal Laboratory Use." Each chapter has been updated for republication in 1983.
