Traditional, indigenous, and unorthodox medical systems are examined, including traditional medicine and psychiatry in Africa; humoral therapy and spiritism in Latin America; the practice of ayurveda in southeast Asia and unani tibb in India and Pakistan; traditional Chinese medicine including acupuncture; homeopathy; traditional midwifery and fertility regulation; and herbal medicine. The organizational and legal aspects of traditional medicine are also discussed, with special reference to primary health care.
