In this third edition, Paul D. Hoeprich and 122 contributors have put together up-to-date information on infectious diseases. One hundred and seventy chapters address issues of classical infectious diseases and newly described infectious disease syndromes. Additionally, the section on presumed or possibly infectious diseases is expanded. There are eight new chapters dealing with immunopathology of infectious diseases, legionnaires' disease, paracoccidiomycosis, non-A, non-B hepatitis, Jorge Lobos disease, chromoblastomycosis, babesiosis, and Kawasaki syndrome. Unfortunately, the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is not dealt with. The chapter on antimicrobial agents reviews antimicrobial pharmacokinetics and toxicity.
