The Wide Spectrum of cardiac emergencies is presented in this multiauthored, thorough, but reasonably concise book written by clinically oriented academicians from the West Coast. Four chapters deal with acute myocardial infarction and its complications. Other topics include ventricular and supraventricular tachyarrhythmias, bradyarrhythmias and bundle branch block, pacemaker and hypertensive emergencies, aortic dissection, valvular disease, cardiac tamponade, cardiovascular trauma, drug therapy and overdose, pulmonary embolism, and acute respiratory failure.
Each topic is introduced with a good, clinically directed discussion of the pathophysiologic fundamentals and there is a liberal use of summary tables. The discussions are balanced and timely, and the
