Many family members develop fears when psychiatric hospitalization is prescribed for a relative. Dr. Korpell addresses these fears. He includes chapters ranging from who needs psychiatric hospitalization, to how admission is arranged, to diagnosis, medication, and treatment. In the final chapter he presents information about sources of help in the community after the patient is discharged. A brief but wide-scope annotated bibliography lists appropriate literature for family members who wish to understand the subjective experience of madness and who wish to increase their understanding of the therapeutic process.
