The editors state in the preface that this book is "intended to fill the gap between the relevant chapters in the textbooks [of hematology] and the comprehensive monograph" (that is, the fourth edition of Leukemia, edited by Gunz and Henderson, Grune & Stratton, New York, 1983). They hope that the book will be of value to "clinicians and laboratory hematologists (and to medical students) who want to up-date their knowledge with a book that can be read from cover to cover in a few hours."
