Of the 33 contributors to this book, 25 are Japanese, which accounts for statistics that are strange to the American or European reader. Cancer of the stomach is the commonest malignant tumor in Japan, and disease of the cardiovascular system is only the fourth commonest cause of death in the elderly. Another reported oddity is that elevation of the dome of the right lobe of the liver is common in elderly Japanese women, attributed to the habitual wearing of the Japanese kimono.
The book contains a number of naive and inaccurate statements. There is occasional unintentional humor, such as geriatrics
