Cancers of the genitourinary system account for over 140 000 of the 650 000 new cases of cancer diagnosed each year in the United States. Because of that high incidence, many texts on genitourinary oncology have appeared in the last several years. This handsome, yet expensive, work must be reviewed in that context. There are 30 contributors, 24 from the University of Iowa, and 21 chapters each with 1 to 4 authors. Thirteen urologists and nine pathologists review cancers of the various anatomic sites. Laboratory aspects of genitourinary cancers, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy are given 1 chapter each.
