The physical and mental health care needs of homeless people stand in ironic contrast to the health care system we have developed in our society of great material wealth. Despite an apparently increased social and political awareness of this expanding segment of the population, efforts to provide the homeless with the basic requirements of food and shelter, let alone health care, have met with increasing frustration.
