William Harvey writing on vivisection of the heart stated,". . . I found the task so truly arduous, so full of difficulties, that I was almost tempted to think with Fracastorius, that the motion of the heart was only to be comprehended by God. . . ." Imagine what his thoughts would have been if asked to edit a complete treatise on diseases of the heart. Today we have several such books including one edited by Dr. Braunwald, and this one by Dr. Hurst; both are magnificent achievements.
