Advances in technology over the past 5 years that have lead to the integration of pulsed and continuous wave Doppler with conventional echocardiography have revolutionized the noninvasive diagnosis of cardiac disease. The applications of these techniques have emerged as the procedure of choice in the evaluation of valvular as well as congenital heart disease and more recently in the assessment of left ventricular systolic and diastolic function.
