ALICE M. GODFREY, M.D.
To the editor: I have followed with interest the article (1), editorials (2, 3), and correspondence regarding training in internal medicine. Anyone concerned with postgraduate medical training should read "Honest Mistakes" in the July issue of Esquire (4). The author describes, in vivid, authentic, and harrowing detail, a day in the life of a housestafF team in a typical public hospital. One cannot fail to be reminded painfully of one's own experiences as a house officer or to reflect on the sad expense of effort, time, and money that these hard-working young doctors lavish so unproductively on their tasks.
